The Beginning

Perry and Rubin sensei have been instrumental in developing Aikido in the Claremont area since 1983. Musubi Dojo is the result of many transformations involving many people. From its meager beginnings in 1983, it was an unnamed effort in Tae Aponte's Karate dojo. Then they started Claremont Colleges Aikido Club at the colleges where Rubin sensei teaches Philosophy and where Perry sensei earned her PhD. Then, Aikido of Claremont was founded at the (now famous and restored) packing house on First Street, before the dojo moved to a larger space on Monte Vista Avenue in unincorporated San Bernardino county. Sensei Perry and Rubin eventually merged the 15 year old College Aikido Club with the dojo, now named Musubi Dojo. As the dojo grew, it relocated again to a spot off of Claremont Boulevard in Claremont where it remained for the next 20+ years. It was the dojo associated with Rubin and Perry Sensei magazine: Aikido Today Magazine. It became a showpiece for the bi-monthly seminars that were held for up to 100 students and for the background of the many DVDs (see Aiki.com) that were filmed on the dojo 's mats. Students eagerly contributed to an inspiring shomen, an uplifting Yoga room as well as an amazing Japanese tea house. Now with the retirement of Aikido Today Magazine, Sensei Rubin and Perry have designed their training dojo located in Montclair, Ca just over a mile from the old location; the new address is 4650 Arrow Hwy Ste D-6.
